[Opening November 2026] A pair of adjoining machiya inns rejuvenated by Kyoto’s groundwater

Located about a 7-minute walk from Marutamachi Station on the Karasuma Subway Line and about an 8-minute walk from Nijojo-mae Station on the Tozai Subway Line, “MUDANI Izumi” is a vacation rental comprising two renovated, adjoining traditional Kyoto townhouses (machiya). As part of MUDANI’s premium brand, “ MUDANI Signature,” we have created two entirely distinct “Meguri” experiences centered around the Kyoto groundwater that springs from beneath the townhouses.

At EAST, you’ll journey through a straw-lined warehouse sauna, a groundwater cold plunge, an open-air bath, and a relaxation space. After experiencing the dramatic shift between heat and cold, you’ll undergo a “centripetal” experience that brings your mind and body back to their inner center. At WEST, you’ll first attune your senses with the sounds of singing bowls and incense before entering the groundwater warehouse bath overlooking the traditional Japanese courtyard.After your bath, relax on the engawa veranda and enjoy the “centrifugal” experience of radiating the inner tranquility you’ve cultivated outward.
